Power-Boost After School Snacks

‘Tis the season for afterschool activities and sporting events! Yet all the excitement of the school day can be draining for your child leaving them lacking energy for all those wonderful extracurricular activities! To give your child a boost, try these healthy, delicious after school snacks…

  • A handful of carrots and a tablespoon of natural peanut butter
  • A slice of whole wheat toast with some cottage cheese, sliced peaches and cinnamon
  • *A handful of homemade trail mix
  • 2-3 turkey and cheese roll ups
  • Plain Greek Yogurt with one teaspoon of honey, cinnamon, and your child’s favorite fruit
  • A frozen banana sprinkled with cinnamon and unsweetened coco powder and a glass of milk
  • One cup of frozen green grapes and a string cheese stick
  • *A homemade smoothie
  • Sliced apple with 2 tablespoons hummus and ¼ cup raisins
  • A sliced pear with almond butter, wheat germ and cinnamon

Get your kids to help you make these fun and tasty treats!

Homemade trail mix:

1/4 cup whole shelled (unpeeled) almonds
1/4 cup unsalted dry-roasted peanuts
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/4 cup chopped pitted dates
2 ounce dried apricots or other dried fruit

*Add some organic chocolate or carob chips to make it even more child friendly!

Homemade smoothie

½ banana

½ cup frozen strawberries

½ TBSP natural peanut butter

1 tsp cinnamon

¼ cup whole grain cereal (i.e. love all the Kashi-brand cereals!)
