Let’s face it, there’s more than once in a while that we vegetarians feel like we just might not have as much energy as we’d like. Although being a vegetarian can be a very healthy life choice, it can be difficult at times to obtain the right amount of nutrients to sustain our energy levels throughout the day. It is especially important for our vegetarian selves to make sure that we are eating 2-3 small, energy packed snacks between our main meals. Below you will find a list of some of the most “oomph” giving and delicious snacks a vegetarian could ask for…
- A handful of carrots and a tablespoon of natural peanut butter
- 1 scrambled egg and one scrambled egg white with fresh Parmesan cheese and tomato with ½ piece of whole wheat toast
- 100 calorie pack of hummus with ½ a pita and some broccoli
- ¼ cup pumpkin seeds with a low fat string cheese
- 2 dried figs and ½ cup almonds
- A slice of whole wheat toast with cottage cheese, sliced peaches and cinnamon
- Plain Greek Yogurt with one teaspoon of honey, ground flaxseed, cinnamon, and fruit
- A frozen banana sprinkled with cinnamon and unsweetened cocoa powder and a glass of milk
- A sliced pear with almond butter, wheat germ and cinnamon
- A homemade smoothie
*Homemade smoothie
½ banana (frozen is best b/c it makes the smoothie creamy!)
½ cup frozen strawberries
½ TBSP natural peanut butter
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ cup whole grain cereal
ADD whey protein powder (15g women, 25g men) for better blood sugar support – we like Jay Robb brand
You can also add 1 T Salba for added Omega 3′s – www.salbasmart.com
